Mucormycosis is a fungal infection that causes blackening or discolouration over the nose, blurred or double vision, chest pain, breathing difficulties and coughing blood.
Mucormycosis is a very rare fungal infection. It is caused by exposure to mucor mould which is commonly found in soil, plants, manure, and decaying fruits and vegetables. “It is ubiquitous and found in soil and air and even in the nose and mucus of healthy people.
It affects the sinuses, the brain and the lungs and can be life-threatening in diabetic or severely immunocompromised individuals, such as cancer patients or people with HIV/AIDS.
Symptoms of mucormycosis:
- Blackening or discolouration over the nose
- Blurred or double vision
- Swelling or pain in eyes
- Chest pain
- Breathing difficulties
- Coughing blood
Doctors reported that due to eye infraction, the eyes of some patients had to be removed because of the spraed of infection from eye to brain.
In some cases both eyes have to be removed. It is mainly seen in post covid patients.
Prevention of mucormycosis:
To prevent, post covid diabetic patients must regularly check for the blood sugar levels, and make sure to have controlled diabetes. As soon as patients are free from corona patients has to get a proper dose of steriods to prevent themselves from black fungus.
Treatment of mucormycosis:
Anti- fungus intravenous injection is effective to prevent the spread of infection.
Studies are going on as complete medications to be take place.
